Ramol gang rape: DNA of accused matches fetus’s

Ankit Parekh and Chirag Vaghela
AHMEDABAD: A test report received by Ramol police in the gang-rape case has revealed that the DNA of the stillborn girl of the victim — a 19-year-old college girl — matches the DNA of one of the accused, Ankit Parekh of Sarkhej. The result establishes him as the biological father of the dead baby. Parekh used to work as a clerk in the zoology department of Gujarat University. He was fired after his arrest in the case.
Others arrested in the case are Chirag Vaghela of Jantanagar and Rajeshkumar Suthar of Ranip. Cops are still hunting for Hardik Shukla.

The girl was raped in June 2018 in a guest house on Vastral Road. Deputy commissioner of police zone-5 Akshayraj Makwana said that the girl had not initially told her parents about her ordeal. “The stillborn baby was delivered after eight months of pregnancy. The girl lodged the complaint at that stage,” Makwana said. “The girl died of kidney failure after taking an overdose of abortion pills.”
National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, submitted a memorandum to the governor alleging that Parekh is a member of the student wing of a political party and hence cops were going slow on the investigation. Subhan Saiyed of the NSUI has said in the memorandum that the case should be handed over to the CBI.
