NALSAR University of Law reservation policy is in accordance with the NALSAR University Act, 1998, registrar V. Balakista Reddy has said.

In response to Congress leader D. Sravan’s demand for implementation of reservation rule, including local quota and reservation for backward classes with allotment of 85% of seats in the academic courses offered by the university, Prof. Reddy clarified the Act originally did not provide for any reservation, including local reservation.

“In 2010, NALSAR University Act was amended and Section 5A was inserted. After that, reservation was being implemented for SC, ST, women and physically challenged persons of Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana). The amendment also specified that reservation for local candidates (resident students) will be to the extent of only 20%”, he explained.

Even after amendment, the Act did not include BC reservation and Legislative Assembly itself did not provide for 85% local reservation, he stated.
