MUMBAI: Jewellery showrooms did brisk sales over Tuesday’s festival of
Akshay Tritiya. Gold coins and diamond jewellery were the flavour of the season.
Goldsmiths Aditya Pethe and Vaibhav Saraf claimed a 20% growth in sales. Diamond retailer Gautam Ghanasingh of Ghanasingh Be True, Bandra, said, “We witnessed steady footfalls through the day. Business is better than 2018.” Tuesday’s rate of 24-carat gold in Mumbai was Rs 32,600/10 gm. Chanky Jain of Nakoda Jewels, Zaveri Bazar, said: “Due to the poll code of conduct, people were wary of carrying cash. But today we have recovered sales marginally. This is the first festival after polling and prospects are looking up.”
