VARANASI: Unlike caustic and scathing attacks on opponents during poll campaign, it was soulful musical campaign that was witnessed recently in Mirzapur parliamentary constituency, which was once represented by Bandit Queen
Phoolan Devi in 1996-98.
Apna Dal(S) leader and union minister Anupriya Patel took everybody by surprise in her constituency when she rendered a popular ghazal of
Jagjit Singh – “Hoshwalon Ko Khabar Kya, Bekhudi Kya Cheez Hai. Ishq Kijiye Phir Samajhiye, Zindagi Kya Cheez Hai. Hum Labon Se Keh Na Paaye, Unse Haal-E-Dil Kabhi, Aur Woh Samjhe Nahin Ye Khamoshi Kya Cheez Hai”.
She sang it melodiously without the support of any
musical instrument. A video of her melodious voice has now gone viral on the social media. The 1.36-minute video clipping shows Anupriya dressed in green suit singing amid a gathering of people mostly the party workers.
“It was my birthday. The party workers were celebrating the occasion, and they requested me to sing for them,” Anupriya told TOI when contacted on Wednesday. The 38-year-old Anupriya celebrated her birthday with party workers in Mirzapur on April 28.
Mirzapur, which is going to poll in the last phase on May 19, was won by Anupriya in 2014 with a margin of over 2.19 lakh votes. The SP-BSP alliance has fielded
Ram Charitra Nishad, while Congress has fielded Lalitesh Pati Tripathi from the seat.
