Thiruvananthapuram: The pass percentage in Kerala higher secondary examination, the results of which were declared on Wednesday, recorded a slight increase compared to last year. The pass percentage is 84.33 this year as opposed to last year’s 83.75.
The results were announced by general education secretary A Shajahan in the presence of other officials concerned. Owing to the prevalence of model code of conduct, general education minister C Raveendranath chose not to attend the news conference.
Owing to seminal changes introduced in the conduct of examination, including question paper setting and evaluation process, the evaluation system has improved exponentially, claimed government authorities.
As many as 3,11,375 students out of 3,69,238 have become eligible for higher studies. The number of students who secured cent percent marks is 183 and 14,244 candidates scored A+ in all subjects.
Girls performed better than boys this year also. While 91.15% of girl students became eligible for higher studies, only 76.60% of boys cleared the exam.
In the science stream, 1,54,112 (86.04 %) students have become eligible for higher studies. Pass percentage in humanities and commerce streams are 79.82 and 84.65, respectively. In sector wise results, aided sector tops with 86.36 %, followed by government (83.04 %) and unaided sectors (77.34 %), respectively.
Among the districts, Kozhikode topped the list with a pass percentage of 87.44. The district with lowest pass percentage is Pathanamthitta (78). Malappuram has the highest number of students (1,865) with A+ in all subjects.
As many as 79 schools have clocked cent percentage pass. Victory margin in 27 schools is below 30 %.

The vocational higher secondary, technical higher secondary and arts higher secondary examination results were also announced on Wednesday. The pass percentage in vocational higher secondary is 80.07, technical education is 69.72 and that of arts higher secondary is 93.59.
The minimum eligibility for higher studies is D+ in all subjects with 30% in theory alone and an aggregate total of 30% in theory, practical evaluation and continuous evaluation taken together.
