NEW DELHI: Suspecting his
live-in partner of planning to kill him, a man spiked her glass of milk with
poison. When the woman fell unconscious, he wrapped her body in a bedsheet, put it in a plastic bag and stuffed it in a trunk. The woman died of poisoning and suffocation.
The man, Santosh Kumar, then went back to his village in Bihar and started preparing for his wedding. He was caught shopping using the victim’s money and was booked for
murder. “He told the police that he was fed up with the relationship and had heard Nirmala speak to someone on the phone about the plan to kill him,” said Nupur Prasad, DCP, north.
Nirmala’s body was found in the trunk by the landlord of the house in which the couple was staying when he opened it because of foul smell coming from it. Nirmala and Santosh had posed as a married couple to take the house on rent six months ago. Earlier, Nirmala was married to another man, Saroj, who died a few years after marriage. Saroj had bought a plot of land in his village that was registered in Nirmala’s name. However, after his death, his family members started forcing Nirmala to give the land to them. When she refused, she was harassed by the family members.
She then met Santosh who offered to help her in selling the plot. Santosh told the police that he fell in love with Nirmala during that time. The plot was sold and Nirmala promised to give him Rs 50,000 out of the proceeds. They came to Delhi and rented the house in the Subzi Mandi area of north Delhi. Santosh told the police that he had found that Nirmala was using another cellphone outside the house and had heard her hatching a murder plot with someone.
