BENGALURU: Three persons were arrested for abducting and holding in captivity a 38-year-old Madurai-based businessman. He was rescued from a house in Govindapura, east Bengaluru, after 13 days.
The accused — Aslam and his associates Sardar and Yaseen, all aged about 30 and residents of Govindapura — had abducted Vimal Kumar Swamy, a resident of Dobbspet, near Nelamangala and from Madurai, Tamil Nadu. According to sources, Vimal was running a cargo business and had incurred losses. He had assured Aslam to get a scrap business tender from a private firm and took Rs 3 lakh for him a few years ago. After failing to bag the tender, Vimal promised Aslam to return his money.

Aslam called Vimal to his house in Govindapura on April 22 and detained him illegally till April 28 at a relative’s residence in Doddaballapura. Later, Aslam brought Vimal to his house and got his aides to guard him. Aslam called Vimal’s younger brother Raju over the phone to inform him that he had kidnapped his brother, and demanded Rs 3 lakh for his safe release.
Raju approached his friends in Madurai for money and deposited Rs 50,000 in Aslam’s bank account. Mahendran S, an advo- : cate in Bengaluru, was informed about the incident and suggested that Raju approach Bengaluru police commissioner T Suneel Kumar. The top cop directed Yelahanka police to rescue Vimal; they were also informed that Vimal had property worth Rs 3 crore in Yelahanka. Cops swung into action, located the abductors in Govindapura and rescued Vimal on Saturday.
