Thane: Man ‘drives’ lover to end life, is on the run

THANE: Four days after a 21-yearold woman from Thane allegedly hanged herself, her boyfriend has been booked for driving her to commit suicide. The man, Jugal Rathod, who lives in Thane and works for Thane Municipal Transport, is on the run, said an official from Vartak Nagar police station.
The police said that the woman was fed up as Rathod used to harass her. The woman, who worked at a retail mart, met Rathod two months ago, states the complaint lodged by her father. “The girl’s father had recently learnt that they were in a relationship,” said a police officer.
The woman’s mother, a teacher, lives in another city and her father joined her there. The mother recently told the father that Rathod used to assault their daughter and even take her salary. Last Thursday, when the parents got no response to calls made to the victim, they told a neighbour to check on her. That’s when she was found hanging in the flat.
