A question in the final-year (semester 6) of the Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (BAF) exam paper has left many teachers wondering whether to laugh or to get furious at the frivolity of those who set the question paper.

In the ‘True or False’ section of Taxation-V (Indirect Taxes-III) test held on Monday, one of the questions asked was whether ‘GST means Good night Sweet dream Take care’.

Around 9,000 students appeared for the exam.

While students were happy to score one mark, teachers have raised concerns over the frivolity with which question papers for final-year undergraduate students are being set lately.

“In a subject where goods and service tax [GST] forms a large and relevant part of the syllabus, I’m sure the examiners could have come up with a better question. Such trivial questions force us to doubt paper setters’ knowledge about the subject,” said a professor from a suburban college.

Many teachers believe the question was passed to allow students to improve their marks.

“Even if it was done with good intentions, the outcome portrays the paper setters in bad light,” said another professor.

University of Mumbai officials said they are yet to receive an official complaint from colleges.

“If we do receive a complaint, a subject expert will be assigned to handle the issue,” said Vinod Malale, deputy registrar (public relations), MU.
