Ghaziabad: Two occupants of a car escaped death when police rescued them after their vehicle plunged into the Hindol canal in Indirapuram on Sunday night.
According to police, the victims have been identified as Vinod Kumar (38) and his wife Meena (36). Police said that the couple was rescued within 15 minutes after passersby informed them. “t was a result of a joint rescue operation that was launched by the fire department and the local police,” police added. Sandeep Kumar Singh, SHO of Indirapuram police station, told TOI that the incident occurred around 10.30 pm on Sunday, when the couple was going to their house in Vijay Nagar area in their i20 car.
“The man lost control of the car and the vehicle fell into the canal,” he said. “After the incident, some onlookers informed us. A police team reached the spot within a few minutes and called four drivers from nearby areas for the rescue,” he added. The victims were then taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
“There are no boundaries between the road and the
Hindon canal. Additionally, there are no proper arrangements for streetlights. Due to the dark road, the couple had fallen into the canal. After this accident, traffic was disturbed for over an hour,” police said.
