2 sit for NEET on behalf of candidates, arrested

Ghaziabad: Two youths were arrested from an examination centre at Delhi Public School in Ghaziabad for allegedly impersonating others during the NEET (medical) exam on Sunday evening.
The accused has been identified as Hrishikesh, a resident of Patna in Bihar, and Ranjeet Singh from Sikar in Rajasthan. Hrishikesh, who is an MBBS student and Ranjeet, who is a BSc first-year student, confessed to have taken a sum of Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh, respectively, to appear for the NEET exam.
The duo were nabbed from the school, located along Meerut Road, where the NEET exam was held from 2pm to 5pm. Both of them were sent to judicial custody on Monday after being produced in a local court.
The fraud came to light two hours into the exam when the invigilators started matching the admit cards of aspirants with their main record, police said. While most of the details matched, their photos did not, they added. A further inquiry revealed that they were also carrying forged Aadhaar cards.
According to the police complaint lodged by the school, Hrishikesh was appearing for the exam on behalf of one Austyn Ryan Bazroy, a resident of Ranchi, and Ranjeet was posing as Jintu Das, a resident of Lucknow. The school authorities subsequently informed the National Testing Agency, which had organised the NEET exam, about the fraud.

The accused were handed over to Sihani Gate police for further action. A police official said the youths were approached by “exam mafia” to sit for the exam. He added that Hrishikesh had received an anonymous call offering him the deal, while Ranjeet was approached by a coaching centre in which he was preparing for NEET.
An FIR under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), and sections 7 and 11 of Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act has been registered against Hrishikesh, Ranjeet, Austin and Jintu at Sihani Gate police station, said SP (City) Shlok Kumar on Monday.
