Coimbatore: A section of parents and a few BJP members from Nagercoil on Tuesday lodged a complaint against a private college with the KG Chavadi police, saying the college was cheating undergraduate forensic science students.
The complaint said the Sree Narayana Guru College at KG Chavadi had introduced BSc Forensic Science in 2017 but hasn’t conducted semester exams for the students.
When 10 students and their parents took up the issue with the college management, they promised to conduct both the first and the second semester exams together at the end of the first year. However, at the end of the 2018-’19 academic year too, semester exams were not conducted, said a police press statement quoting the compliant.
The parents and the BJP members subsequently tried to meet the college representatives to urge them to either conduct the exams or give the students transfer certificates to other colleges.
“Since the college reportedly did not give a responsible answer, they came and complained to us. We are planning to call the college authorities and bring them to the table with the parents and sort it out,” the press note said. A representative of the Sree Narayana Guru College, meanwhile, told TOI that they were not offering BSc in Forensic Sciences. “It is being offered by a group called Coimbatore Educational and Charitable Trust, which has rented out some space from us. While we do not know the issue between the course organizers and the parents, the course is approved by the Bharathiar University.”Another college official said the problem occurred when seven first-year students sought transfer certificates. “The management reportedly said they needed to check with the trust before issuing the same and it irked the students and parents.”
