A 27-year-old man, who had gone to Saket court for his hearing in an attempt to murder case, was gunned down in public view on Monday afternoon. The man was killed in Pushp Vihar, behind the Select City Walk shopping mall. Police suspect that the murder is a fallout of the man’s rivalry with another criminal group in Aya Nagar of south Delhi.

Police said the victim, Prince Bihari, a resident of Chirag Dilli, was shot in the neck and the abdomen. It said the attack took place around 3pm when the man, with his three to four friends, one of them a co-accused in the attempt to murder case, exited the court complex and were headed to the shopping mall. Suddenly, two men on a motorcycle fired at Prince.

“As per witnesses and locals, the two men fired three shots. While his friends managed to duck, Prince was hit twice and he collapsed near the footpath. Seeing the man falling, the duo sped away on their motorcycle. The shooting triggered panic among bystanders and passersby who ran to save themselves. The men accompanying Prince called the police and rushed him to nearby Max hospital in an autorickshaw,” said a police officer who is not authorised to speak to media.

DCP (south) Vijay Kumar said initial probe shows that Prince is a criminal from Malviya Nagar and is involved in multiple cases of attempt to murder, assault and those under the Arms Act.
