Nagpur: The city’s dream run this year with board results continued with ICSE’s all India number three spot being grabbed by Shreenabh Agrawal with a stupendous 99.6% score. The student of Chanda Devi Saraf (CDS) created a new record for Vidarbha by becoming the first ever student to break into the national merit list and that too at such a high rank. CDS grabbed the second spot too in the city with Preksha Yadav scoring 98%. The third spot went to Vrushali Mulmule from Marie Poussepin’s Academy (MPA) with 97.6%.
There is no Std XII school from the board in Nagpur, though CDS is expected to restart that in the coming academic session. There are only four schools in and around the city which offer Std X in the CISCE board, popularly known as ICSE, which is actually the name of the certificate given to Std X students.
The total number of students appearing from Nagpur is less than 400, which makes it the smallest board in city, even though it has multiple schools operating. There are at least two more schools in city planning to get affiliation with ICSE in the near future.
This also happens to be the third consecutive year of CDS’ dominance over the top spot. For the current year’s record breaking result, CDS principal Kenneth Mendonca said, “Shreenabh is a bright boy and frankly I was expecting him to top the country. Though what he has achieved is beyond ordinary, and it is due to his hard work and efforts of teachers. I am extremely happy that CDS has performed exceptionally well yet again.”
This year the ICSE examination was conducted in 60 written subjects of which 22 are Indian languages and 10 are foreign languages and 2 classical languages. The ISC (Std XII) examination was conducted in 49 written subjects of which 14 are Indian languages and 6 are foreign languages and 1 classical language. Total 1.96 lakh students appeared for the exam from 2,247 schools across India. Overall girls have done better than boys, with a pass percentage of 99.05%. Boys on the other hand could manage a pass percentage of 98.12%
There were many students with special needs who appeared for the exam. Across the country there were 1,021 candidates with learning difficulty (dyslexia etc) and out of that 123 scored above 90%. There were 36 students who were visually challenged, of which 11 candidates obtained above 90%. There were three students who had to appear for their exams while in hospital.
