Celebrities take on \'campy\' looks at Met Gala

Lady Gaga swept the red carpet in a hot pink gown... with a train so long, five men danced around lifting her skirt.

With four outfit changes, the pop super star set the bar high for fashion's biggest night out, the annual star-studded Met Gala at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Camp fashion can be theatrical, gaudy, kitschy or over the top.

In other words, it's a chance for stars like to be even more outrageous than they've been in years past.

It was a balancing act for Katy Perry who lit up the party.

PERRY REPLIES: " By my heart and my good thoughts." Singer Janelle Monae camped it up with not one but four millinery masterpieces.

Cardi's B's gown was a tough act to follow ... and to walk in.

Fans also got a glimpse of Serena Williams' in a custom neon yellow gown by Versace.... but it was her yellow Nike sneakers that stole the show.

The Met Gala hosted by Vogue editor in chief, Anna Wintour who was shimmering in Chanel, raises money for the Met's Costume Institute.

Tickets are around $35,000 a seat... tables can go for $300,000... And rumor has it, Wintour has the final say on who gets to attend this invite-only fashion parade.

That means Hollywood royalty have to step up their fashion game, even the men.

Not a problem for Rue Paul, who rocked the red carpet in a flashy pink suit by designer Zaldy.

Jared Leto turned campy into freaky, with this decapitated head look from Gucci.

Billy Porter got carried away, literally, by a posse of shirtless men channeling costumes from ancient Egypt.

And the Broadway star wasn't the only one inspired to spread his wings.
