Pass percentage up by 17.8% in UT

In 2018, Chandigarh witnessed a drop of nearly 30% in pass percentage as CBSE switched to percentage system
CHANDIGARH: Class X results under Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) of Chandigarh and the entire Panchkula region have shown remarkable improvement when compared with last year. Chandigarh has registered a 17.84% hike in its pass percentage and the result of Panchkula region has shot up by 6.06%. The pass percentage of Chandigarh is recorded at 84.05% while of the region is 93.72%.
Last year, Chandigarh had witnessed a drop of nearly 30% in pass percentage as CBSE switched to percentage system. In 2017, it was recorded at 96.27% while in 2018, the pass percentage dropped to 66.21%.

Just like Class XII result, though Chandigarh witnessed a rise in pass percentage it continued to be last one in the Panchkula region. Highest pass percentage has been recorded by Jammu and Kashmir at 98.51% which had last year recorded 96.28% pass percentage. Himachal Pradesh is next with 97.28% which was 94.45% last year. Punjab recorded 93.85% pass percentage while it was 88.95% last year. Haryana got 94.18 pass percentage this year while last year it was 88.54%.

Last year Panchkula region had witnessed a drop of around 11% in pass percentage because after many years, CBSE had switched back to percentage system from grading system for the 2018 academic year. Overall percentage last year was recorded at 87.65% while it was 98.15 in 2017. In total, 2,40,177 students had appeared for the exam from the region in 2018 and 2,10,520 got through, with an overall percentage of 87.65%.

Girls outshine boys in every state, including Chandigarh
In Panchkula region, girls recorded a pass percentage of 96.33% and boys recorded a pass percentage of 91.84%. In UT Chandigarh boys recorded a pass percentage of 83.53% while 84.61% girls passed. In Haryana 92.28% boys passed and 97.06% girls passed. In Himachal 98.56% girls passed and 96.33% boys passed. In Jammu and Kashmir 98.84% girls passed and 98.29% boys passed. In Punjab, 97.32% girls passed while 91.20% boys passed. Punjab recorded maximum difference in pass percentage of girls and boys.
