Allahabad: The Sangam city is set to witness a high-voltage campaigning by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on May 9.
While Modi would hold an election meeting on Parade Ground at 5pm, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would conduct a roadshow in the morning.
“The public meeting of Modi would be held on Parade Ground near Sangam, wherein the Prime Minister would be address voters of Allahabad and Phulpur at around 5pm,” said BJP media in-charge Pawan Srivastava. Party workers are busy making preparations for the event, which would be attended by UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, various ministers and BJP candidates from Allahabad and Phulpur, he added.
Congress workers are also leaving no stone unturned to make Priyanka’s roadshow a grand success. “We would receive our leader near Jigna, a place around 60km from Allahabad on Mirzapur state highway, from where her roadshow would enter the Allahabad Lok Sabha segment,” said UPCC spokesperson Kishor Varshnay. Her roadshow would pass through Meja road, Manda, Urva, Rampur Modh, Karchana, Naini bazaar and finally enter Allahabad South assembly constituency. In all, she would spend around five hours in the roadshow, he added.
Coming next would be a mega roadshow of Samjawadi Party (SP) on May 10.
SP’s show of strength would witness three star campaigners of SP including Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan, Kannuaj MP Dimple Yadav and Lucknow candidate Poonam Sinha.
According to the party, the strategy of holding a roadshow by three female campaigners is to counter the BJP strategy of fielding women candidates from Allahabad and Phulpur Lok Sabha constituencies.
“As both the candidates of BJP are women, our roadshow would show the opponents the popularity of SP among women voters and this is also being done to motivate female voters to come out of their homes and cast votes for us,” said SP state spokesperson K K Srivastava.
He said although modalities of the roadshow are yet to be finalised, the party has taken a permission from the district administration from 10am to 5pm.
