KOCHI: The Thiruvananthapuram region recorded the highest pass percentage of 99.85 in the CBSE Class X examination, the results of which were announced in New Delhi on Monday. The region had on Thursday topped the Class XII results too with 98.2% candidates clearing the exam.
In Class X exams, Thiruvananthapuram was followed by Chennai and Ajmer with 99 and 95.89 percentages respectively.
One student from the state –– Bhavana Sivadas from Palghat Lions School, Koppam –– found place among the 13 students from across the country who scored 499 marks in the exam.
Three students from Kerala scored 498 marks. They are Adheena Roy of Silver Hills Public School, Kozhikode, Salma AN of Le Mer Public School, Thrissur and Sirinxa Xavier of Vimal Jyothy Central School, Thrissur. Almost 25 students from the country scored 498 marks in the exam.
Almost 59 students from across the country scored 497 marks, with five students from the state making it in list. Those who scored 497 marks are Elizabeth Jacob of Mar Baselious Public School, Kottayam, Gokul Nair of Arya Central School, Thiruvananthapuram, Easha Pai of Bhavans Vidya Mandir, Kochi, Athul Vijay of St Joseph’s English Medium School, Malappuram and Gadha Suresh of Vijayagiri Public School, Chalakudy.
The overall pass percentage has increased by 4.40 this year as compared to 2018. Of the 17,61,078 students who appeared for the Class X exams across the country, 16,04,428 passed. Again, girls did better than boys by 2.31%.
CBSE school principals in the state, meanwhile, said that with the results being declared earlier that the previous years this time, the schools will be able to start the Class XI classes in the first week of June itself. The early announcement of results will also help those students who want to migrate to state board schools for their Plus Two courses, they said.
Generally, the Class X CBSE results are declared in the last week of May, while state board results come much earlier.

“This is the first time in several years that CBSE Class X results has been declared so much in advance. This should happen every year,” said K Unnikrishnan, president, Confederation of Kerala Sahodaya complexes.
“We are much on time and we can start classes early, ensuring that we don’t lose out on too many working days,” said Kerala State Council of CBSE Schools (KSCCS) working president E Ramankutty Warrier.
