2.5kg gold, 118 kg silver seized in Haridwar, Agra

Harvendar Singh was held on Monday
HARIDWAR/AGRA: In two separate incidents of gold-silver seizures, the Haridwar railway police and Agra police seized 2.5 kg gold and 118 kg silver respectively on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
In the first incident, sleuths of Government Railway Police (GRP) seized 2.5kg gold and Rs 10lakh cash from an Amritsar-based businessman at Haridwar railway station.
Police added that the accused failed to provide any valid documents regarding the cash and gold. Station house officer of GRP Haridwar Anuj Singh told TOI, "Accused Balraj Arora was going to Amritsar from Haridwar with his son Sunny. We seized the gold and cash after he failed to provide any valid document.
Since it is a case of tax evasion, we have informed the income tax department and didn't make any arrest." He added that local jewellers are being questioned.
In another incident, Agra police arrested three men with 118 kg silver, which was robbed by a 12-member gang from a logistic shipping company's SUV.
In the encounter, one of the accused sustained bullet injury in his leg.

According to police, the master-mind of the robbery was a former employee of the logistic shipping company and a distant relative of the company's director Shankar Singh Parimar.
The accused was identified as Harvendar Singh, who executed the robbery in order to "avenge insult" and recover Rs 4 lakh, which he had to pay his maternal uncle Shankar Singh Parimar, after he was caught stealing parcels in 2018 and was fired from his job.
