CHANDIGARH: Unknown persons stole a bag containing laptop and other items of a person from a luxury bus in Sector 17. The police failed to register a theft case and only registered a DDR (daily diary report) in the matter. Similar incidents have also been reported in the past.
As per the incident, Sunil Kumar, a resident of Sector 40D, told TOI that he boarded a luxury bus of the CTU for New Delhi from the Sector 17 bus stand at 1pm which was to depart from the bus stand at 1.30pm.
Sunil kept his bag containing laptop and other documents, in the luggage space overhead his seat. Sunil alleged that he sat on his seat comfortably and within a minute, two youngsters also boarded the bus. He thought that the two youngsters were keeping their bags in the space. The youngsters went out of the bus immediately.
He said when his co-passenger came and was keeping his bag at the same place, he found his bag missing.
Sunil immediately called the cops and moved a complaint with them, but cops allegedly told him: “It is your responsibility to keep your bag safely in the bus and such incidents are regular here.”

The cops later registered a missing DDR and not an FIR.
Sunil said: “On one hand, Chandigarh comes under the smart city project, while on the other, there are no cameras installed at the bus stand where such incidents are occurring on a daily basis. The police are also not serious about the issue.”
