Noida to build bio-toilets in three parks

Noida: The Noida Authority has decided to install bio-toilets and eco-bins at the Biodiversity Park and Medicinal Park in Sector 91 and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in Sector 150, which are supposed to be inaugurated later this year.
While eco-bins are specialised bins that have a dual function of holding the organic waste and converting it into compost, a bio-toilet is a mechanised toilet system which decomposes excretory waste in the digester tank using specific high-grade bacteria and then converting it into methane and water.

Bio-toilet saves water as its bio-digester technology — which has anaerobic bacteria that converts human waste into water, methane, and carbon dioxide — treats human waste at source.
While the cost of an eco-bin is approximately Rs 700, the toilets are being built or modified as part a contract of Rs 7 lakh to develop facilities at each park. This contract includes development and maintenance of the parks. “Noida Authority is planning to install 12 bio-toilets at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park, 24 in Biodiversity Park and 12 in the Medical Park. These are likely to be inaugurated by August 10 at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park, by September 30 at Biodiversity and Medicinal parks. The total number of eco-bins will be finalised later,” said Rajeev Tyagi, general manager at the Noida Authority.
