Queensland quad bike rider injured after 50m fall

A quad bike passenger has fallen 50 metres down a steep embankment in a remote Queensland forest.

She was one of two women on a quad bike that reared up on a rough dirt track and tossed its riders down the steep hill in the Mia Mia State Forest about midday on Monday, RACQ central Queensland Rescue Helicopter Service said.

The woman, believed to be in her 20s, suffered a fractured pelvis and possible spinal injuries and was flown to Mackay Base Hospital.

RACQ CQ Rescue said the driver had been trying to turn around on a muddy and rutted out track about 3km from Captains Crossing before the fall.

The injured passenger's husband and friends, who had been riding motorbikes, were among those first on the scene.

Before she could be winched out of the forest, RACQ CQ Rescue said, the woman had to be carried by stretcher back up the steep hill and towards a tree clearing.

The rider driving the bike was taken to hospital by road but her injuries are unknown.
