Don't burden Goa exchequer for National Games penalty: AAP to

The Party Tuesday wrote to the claiming the exchequer should not be burdened for paying the Rs 10 crore penalty imposed on the state by the for repeatedly missing the deadline for completion of infrastructure for the National Games.

The 36th National Games were originally scheduled in in 2016 but had to be postponed three times, including this year on account of general elections, following which the IOA imposed a penalty of Rs 10 crore in April this year.

Siddharth Karapurkar, in a letter written to the chief secretary, asserted that the state exchequer should not be burdened with the penalty, and that it should be paid by officials responsible for the delay.

Karapurkar, in his letter, said, "Tax payers are entitled to demand accountability for the expenditure made to take care of the salaries, perks, facilities of your administration which has become dysfunctional or totally non functional."

"It is demanded that those responsible for the lapses be made to pay the entire amount of penalties imposed without placing any additional burden on the public exchequer," he added.

While state CS could not be contacted, a said work on getting the infrastructure ready for the National Games was currently underway on "war footing".
