MADURAI
A total of 181 polling stations, identified as vulnerable, in Thiruparankundram Assembly constituency, will be provided additional security during the by-election to be held on May 19.
After holding a discussion with senior police officers here on Tuesday, Director General of Police (Elections) Ashutosh Shukla said 3,614 police personnel would be deployed for election duty in 297 polling stations.
A statement said 105 flying squads and 36 surveillance teams had already been deployed in the constituency.
The city police have executed 270 arrest warrants.
Besides 1,670 persons who could create law and order problems during the election, have been forced to give security bonds.
Forty-five check posts have been set up in connection with the by-election.
Commissioner of Police S Davidson Devasirvatham, Inspector General of Police (south zone) K.P. Shanmuga Rajeswaran, DIG of Police (Madurai range) Pradeep Kumar and Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan were among the officials who took part in the meeting.
