[Comment] Increases in alcohol consumption in middle-income countries will lead to increased harms

The WHO Global Monitoring Framework for Non-Communicable Diseases includes an ambitious global target of a 10% reduction in the harmful use of alcohol by 2025.1 A modelling study by Jakob Manthey and colleagues2 in The Lancet indicates that this goal will not be met, with a plateau in consumption in high-income countries offset by marked projected increases in middle-income countries.
