Inspector S. Latha and head constable Subramanian, of the Prohibition Enforcement Wing, were placed under suspension by Villupuram Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Santhosh Kumar for failing to bring an accused before the court and releasing him on station bail.
According to police, A. Muthukumar, 25, of Sankarapuram, in Villupuram district was arrested by the police for smuggling IMFL from Puducherry during a vehicle check in January.
Delay in procedures
However, Inspector Latha released him on station bail without producing the accused before the court.
The duo also had delayed in producing the contraband seized from him before the court. On learning about the incident, DIG Santhosh Kumar ordered an inquiry after which the duo were suspended.
