Gold worth Rs 66 lakh seized from passenger at Trichy airport

The foils were found stuffed inside the pipes of a wall-mounted television stand.
TRICHY: Customs officials seized 2 kg of gold foils worth Rs 66.26 lakh from a passenger at Trichy International Airport on Sunday night.
The officials intercepted P Murugesah, 34, of Pudukkottai who arrived here from Kuala Lumpur in an AirAsia flight. They checked his luggage. His luggage had a wall-mounted television stand.

The officials found a total of 2.096 kg of gold -- in the form of foil papers -- in the tubes of the TV stand.
Assistant commissioner of customs air intelligence unit M Pandaram said the passenger had smuggled the yellow metal in the form of foils. Nine foils were found stuffed inside the pipes of the wall-mounted TV stand.
