HYDERABAD: Four members of a gang, which allegedly indulged in illegally transporting and selling noxious chewing
tobacco, was arrested here on Monday and contraband items worth over Rs 1.43 crore along with two vehicles were seized, police said.
Police intercepted two goods vehicles near Secunderabad Railway Station and found huge quantity of banned chewing tobacco/zarda and pan masala material and arrested the four gangsters including the prime accused, Hyderabad police commissioner Anjani Kumar said. The accused were illegally transporting and selling the products to customers in and around Hyderabad and Bidar district of Karnataka, the Commissioner said.
The main accused along with five others were arrested earlier in 2018 for the offence and were out on bail.
Later the prime accused, through his agents, established another manufacturing unit in
Gujarat and started manufacturing the noxious tobacco products which were transported through railway cargo service from Ahmedabad to Secunderabad railway station, police added.
