Despite paying ₹17,000 as enrolment charges, Bharat Matrimony was deficient in services

A district consumer disputes redressal forum here has directed a matrimonial website to compensate a complainant by paying over ₹20,000 after it was alleged that the company failed to facilitate meetings with “prospective grooms.”

The directions came on a plea by a Rohini resident, who alleged that despite paying a sum of ₹17,000 as enrolment charges, Bharat Matrimony was deficient in services and indulged in unfair trade practice by not arranging a meeting with the family of prospective grooms.

It was alleged that when the complainant asked the company to schedule a meeting with the prospective groom’s family, it refused to arrange it, stating that “the other party was not agreeing.”

The complainant moved the consumer panel while stating that “misconduct on the part of the (website) has amounted to deficiency in service, as also an unfair trade practice.”

An extra ₹5000 was directed to be paid for physical and mental harassment.
