They also ransack station; police were checking for drunken driving cases

The Bellandur police on Saturday arrested two bikers for allegedly beating up three traffic policemen who pulled them up for drunken driving and later ransacking the police station when they were taken in for questioning. They allegedly assaulted another three police personnel at the station.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday in front of HSR Layout traffic police station where constables Ashok and Nanje Gowda along with ASI Narayanappa were deployed for a special drive. The accused, Rahul Tripathi, 22, from Haryana and his associate Aditya Srutriya, 24, from West Bengal, are interning with an MNC and live in a paying guest accommodation at Marathahalli, according to the police.

Around 1 a.m., Mr. Ashok saw Rahul and Aditya riding a motorbike rashly. The constables managed to stop the duo and realised that they were drunk. When they tried to seize the bike as per the law and demanded to see the documents, the accused allegedly assaulted them.

They also attacked Mr. Narayanappa when he came to assist his colleagues. On hearing the commotion, police personnel from the station and passers-by overpowered the duo.

“Rahul and Aditya then ransacked the police station, smashed a computer, damaged furniture, and attacked other staff. The traffic police called the Bellandur police for back up. They rushed to the spot and arrested the duo,” said the police.

The two have been charged with assaulting public servants, criminal intimidation and damaging public property, along with drunken driving and riding in a rash and negligent manner. They were produced before a magistrate, who remanded them in judicial custody.
