CHANDIGARH: Demanding removal of illegal vendors from Sector 17 plaza, traders of Sector 17 on Monday staged a protest and observed one-hour blackout.
The traders shut their shops for one hour and raised slogans against the UT administration and municipal corporation.
Kamaljeet Panchi, a Sector 17 trader, said they would continue their protest in the coming days too.
“On May 8, we will stage a protest in front of the Chandigarh MC office and will also put up our stalls in front of the office,” he said.

The traders said the MC had declared Sector 17 as no vending zone, but they allowed vendors to put up their stall under the garb of the Street Vendors Act.
The traders said they were protesting to protect Sector 17 market from further damage as it had already lost its sheen and business.
