Gurgaon: Mounting a scathing attack on
BJP governments at the Centre and in the state,
Congress candidate
Captain Ajay Yadav on Sunday released a list of key problems being faced by residents of Gurgaon and Badshapur, which are home to a large share of the city’s urban voters.
In his public meetings, Yadav claimed he would come up with solutions to resolve them. “If I win the polls, I will set a deadline to resolve each problem and address all of them within the given time frame,” he said.
In the last five years of BJP’s rule, the city has lost its share of development. There are many issues that have been overlooked and need immediate attention, Yadav said.
Education and healthcare facilities in the city, he said, are in a shambles. “There is a need to build a medical college, and the civil hospital needs to be upgraded. The bodies like GMDA and H-Rera have been constituted, but they are unable to function owing to various reasons, including lack of financial and administrative powers.
Talking about people living in the buffer zone of IAF ammunition depot, Yadav said despite giving big promises, the BJP-ruled state government could not file an affidavit pertaining to the compensation for people living in 300-metre area around the depot. Earlier, the restricted area was 900 meters around the depot, which was later reduced to 300 meters. Most families, he said, in this area are living without basic amenities.
Under the BJP’s rule, Gurgaon has been included in the list of most polluted cities of the world. But the Congress will ensure maintenance of green cover in the city, curbs on use of plastic, ban on dumping of garbage in the open, mechanical cleaning of roads and strict implementation of NGT norms. Apart from this, he said, he will help come up with incentives for those using bicycle to travel to office.
“The metro expansion has also always been the priority of Congress governments,” said Yadav and added the extending the metro network help reduce air pollution. “For your information, connecting Delhi and Gurgaon by metro rail and starting Rapid metro in Cyber City in the first phase and extension of Rapid Metro corridor till Sector 56 were carried out during the Congress’s tenure,” he added.
Another long-pending demand is a modern railway station for Gurgaon, said Yadav, adding that he would coordinate with the railway ministry to upgrade the station at the earliest if he wins. “The millennium city needs a world-class railway station, but it is in a bad shape now,” he said. On removing Kherki Daula toll plaza, he said there is no doubt that the toll is a huge obstacle in the development of Manesar industrial area.
