Railway police has formed five special teams to nab the miscreants involved in robbing passengers of gold jewellery in running trains in Salem-Erode sector.
Deputy Inspector General of Police V. Balakrishnan told presspersons that following robbery incidents on Saturday and Sunday, the railway police has increased its deployment of beat police personnel on trains and Government Railway police, local police and Railway Protection Force personnel deployed at places were there was possibilities of such incidents take place across the State.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police (Railways) C. Sylendra Babu inspected the spot between Mavelipalayam and Sankagiri railway stations where the robbery took place.
Mr. Sylendra Babu also held discussions with senior police officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) P. Thangadurai on security arrangements in the region. In the recent incidents of train robbery, railway police have received nine complaints.
On Saturday and Sunday, miscreants robbed over nine passengers of their valuables taking advantage of railway engineering work which was under way between Mavelipalayam and Sankagiri railway station. Due to railway engineering works in the area, trains have been asked to operate at a limited speed in the region.
