All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) has urged the State Government to ensure that workers registered with the welfare board should only be allowed to work in construction activities.
A meeting of the State AITUC Construction Workers’ Association, led by its district president S. Chinnasamy, was held here on Sunday in which the following resolutions were adopted. A resolution said that workers, who had registered with the welfare board and were assured of accident protection and social protection, should only be allowed to work in construction activities. Another resolution wanted the government to lay down no restrictions for workers who failed to renew their names with the welfare board.
A resolution said that applications seeking assistance with the welfare board were pending from March 10 citing model code of conduct in progress. As per the rules of the board, applications seeking educational assistance for school students should be submitted by March 31 while it is May 31 for college students. Hence, the resolution wanted the government to extend time till July 31 for accepting the applications.
A resolution said that pensioners should submit medical certificate annually in person to the board in April that cause inconvenience to the pensioners. The resolution wanted the government to change the norms by which the appearance of the pensioner in the welfare board office should be accepted. They also wanted the district monitoring committee to be conducted every month, construct houses for the workers who had submitted applications.
