Muslim MP shares heartbreaking story of how his 15-year-old daughter was left in tears after racist bullies refused to shake her hand after a soccer game
- Jihad Dib said his 15-year-old daughter was 'harangued for being Muslim'
- He said he went to pick up the teen from her soccer game and found her crying
- She was refused a handshake from the opposing team and told she didn't belong
A Muslim MP said his teenage daughter was a victim of hate speech at her own soccer game in Sydney this weekend.
Jihad Dib, who represents Lakemba in NSW, took to Twitter to share how he found his 15-year-old in tears after she was bullied by teammates for being Muslim.
'Missed daughter's soccer game due to work but when I picked her up, she was deeply hurt and had been crying. Had been constantly harangued for being Muslim, her teammates, referred to as Ching-Chong.
'Don't tell me hate speech being normalised doesn't have an effect on daily life!' he tweeted on Sunday.

Jihad Dib, who represents Lakemba in NSW, said he went to pick up his 15-year-old daughter from a soccer game and found her in tears after she was bullied by teammates for being Muslim
Mr Dib said his daughter had been called 'disgusting' and was told she didn't 'belong here,' he told SBS.
He said another teammate, of Asian descent, had also been targeted and was referred to as 'Ching Chong.'
The comments were made by the girls' opponents, who reportedly refused to shake Mr Dib's daughter's hand after the game.
'She said: "Dad, I just couldn't believe she would say that,' he told The New Daily.
Mr Dib said he believes the use of hate speech and anti-Muslim and racial slurs have become more common today due to a 'trickle-down effect' caused by other politicians.

The NSW MP said the teen had been 'deeply hurt' and had been 'harangued' by the opposing team
He pointed out Queensland Senator Fraser Anning, who came under fire following his anti-Muslim comments in the wake of the Christchurch mosque attacks in March.
And most recently, Liberal candidate Jessica Whelan was dumped by her party on Friday after old social media posts surfaced of the politician making Islamophobic comments.
Ms Whelan was accused in Parliament of advocating the genital mutilation of Muslim women and selling them as slaves, and of saying Tasmanians 'don't bloody want' to take in Syrian refugees.
A more recent post showed she referred to US cop Mohamed Noor as a 'filthy Muslim.'
While she argued some of the comments had been doctored she admitted to making 'some' of the posts.
Mr Dib said he plans to make a formal complaint with the soccer league.
'I think we need to ask ourselves how can we stop this from happening all the time? Free speech is free speech, but when it becomes an opportunity to just say everything or anything then I think we need to reassess,' he said.
