Absa Premiership

Chiefs could miss out on top 8 finish

2019-05-06 14:00

Cape Town - With the final Absa Premiership match-day scheduled for Saturday, May 11, there are FOUR teams who could potentially secure a place in the top 8.

Lastest Absa Premiership standings

Kaizer Chiefs (7th), Highlands Park (8th), Bloemfontein Celtic (9th) and Golden Arrows (10th) all have a chance of making the cut for next season's MTN8 tournament.

On Saturday, Amakhosi travel to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for a tricky tie against relegation-threatened Chippa United.

If Chiefs were to lose on Saturday and Highlands Park, Celtic and Arrows win their respective games, the Soweto giants will start their 2019/20 PSL season without MTN8 action.

Meanwhile, Chippa along with Baroka, Free State Stars, Black Leopards and Maritzburg United could be relegated depending on final day results.

"We are going go into the game against Chiefs with the same mindset as today. We play with our hearts on our sleeves," said Chilli Boys coach Clinton Larsen.

"Chiefs have to be very cautious in terms of players getting injured for the (Nedbank Cup) final a week later (against TS Galaxy), so it's going to be interesting to see what type of team they put out.

"It's going to a very physical encounter. My players will definitely roll their sleeves like they did today.

"It's going to be interesting to see if those Chiefs players will put their feet where it hurts because my players are going to go all out for a win."

Highlands Park take on SuperSport United while Celtic entertain AmaZulu at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium.

Meanwhile, Arrows have an game as they take on title chasing hopefuls Sundowns on Tuesday evening before welcoming Wits to the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday.
