Refuting the reports of joining the Congress in Delhi, Anandraj Ambedkar — grandson of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and younger brother of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) leader Prakash Ambedkar — on Sunday said he is contemplating to take legal recourse against those who spread the misinformation.

“I have not gone out of Maharashtra for the last eight to nine days. And since Sunday morning, I have been receiving calls asking me as to whether I have joined the Congress in Delhi in the presence of Sheila Dixit. I want to categorically deny any such report and want to clarify that I am not going to join the Congress,” he told The Hindu. A number of news reports on Sunday claimed that Mr. Ambedkar had joined the Congress in Delhi along with thousands of his supporters. He was actively involved in the campaign of the VBA, formed by the alliance of the Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh led by Prakash Ambedkar and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen headed by Asaduddin Owaisi.

“Why should I join the Congress? There seem to be certain vested interests working to defame me. I have no intention to join any party and I will continue to work with the VBA,” Mr. Ambedkar said. He said those who want to defame the Ambedkarite movement are purposely spreading the misinformation. “I appeal to each and every activist working in the Ambedkarite movement to not trust such reports,” he said.

Mr. Ambedkar’s Republican Sena came to limelight in 2010-11 when the organisation held protests demanding Indu Mills land for the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial.
