A few minutes into its inauguration on Sunday, tiny tots trooped into the renovated children’s park, off Police Lane, along with their parents and grandparents to get a feel of the new slide, see-saw and swings. They were very exited to play in the park, which once used to be desolated.

Taking a break from play, a few children went to Swami Eekagamyananda, convenor of Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachh Mangaluru campaign, and other members of the campaign, and thanked them for the facility. Most of those who came to play were the children of policemen residing in the police quarters.

This 2,500-sq.ft park has been renovated at a cost of ₹2.5 lakh sponsored by Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. Apart from giving a new coat of paint to the compound wall and to the cement slide, new swings and see-saw equipment have been placed in the park. Interlock tiles, tree saplings and a row of single seater cement seats adds to the beauty of the park.

Inaugurating the park, Superintendent of Police B.M. Laxmi Prasad said the police would take up the task of maintaining the park. Swami Eekagamyananda said the administrators of the temple in the locality have offered to water the saplings. Swami Jitamakamananda, head of Ramakrishna Mutt in Manglauru, also spoke.

Mr. Prasad then launched the 22nd shramadan of the fifth phase of Ramakrishna Mission’s Swachh Mangaluru campaign. Volunteers first cleaned the surroundings of the Police Welfare Centre, which is adjoining to the Children’s Park. The volunteers then cleaned Police Lane Road.
