Huawei reportedly working on new tablets and smartphones with Kirin 980 chipset

“The Chinese brand is said to be working on at least two tablets and a few new smartphones that would be powered by the Kirin 980 processor”

According to a new leak, Huawei may be working on new flagship devices powered by the Kirin 980 chipset. The information was discovered by XDA’s Mishaal Rahman, who posted the findings on Twitter. The Kirin 980 is a flagship grade processor from Huawei’s HiSilicon brand and has been used in pretty much all of its latest smartphones. Now, the new findings reveal that the company will be using the chipset in at least two new tablets and a few smartphones.

The findings have also revealed the display size, screen resolution, battery capacity, and the type of camera sensor used in the upcoming devices. There appear to be two tablets with 10.7-inch and 8.4-inch displays. Both these tablets have a QHD+ resolution of 1,600 x 2,560 pixels. They are also powered by the Kirin 980 chipset, which means that these must be high-end tablets.

The smaller 8.4-inch tablet features a 4,200mAh battery, which is the same as the new Huawei P30 Pro (review). On the other hand, the larger tablet with the 10.7-inch screen is pegged to come with a 7,500mAh battery. That’s all we know about the new tablets for now. The Android tablet scene has dried up and we don’t really have a lot to choose from. It would be nice to see new tablets from Huawei. The tablets will most likely feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera.

Coming to the other devices in the leak, these appear to be smartphones. The devices feature 6.39-inch and 6.26-inch displays with FHD+ resolution. Battery capacities of these devices range from 3,500mAh to 4,200mAh. It is possible that one of this could be the new Huawei Nova 5 and the Honor 20/ 20 Pro devices. The phones would also be powered by the Kirin 980 processor and will feature triple-rear cameras with 48-megapixel Sony sensors. The Honor 20 Pro will come with a punch hole camera on the front, as revealed by recent renders. The leak also reveals the model numbers of all the devices. The new tablets should most likely be the Huawei MediaPad M6.
