NEW DELHI: Marvel’s blockbuster superhero flick Avengers: Endgame has closed its second weekend in India by crossing the ₹300 crore mark to earn ₹311 crore. This is the first Hollywood film to cross the ₹300 crore mark in the country, besides having emerged as the highest Hollywood grosser already. It has beaten the ₹227 crore earnings of previous installment Avengers: Infinity War by a long margin.
“Avengers: Endgame remains the first choice of moviegoers. Business took a slight dip on (second) Friday, but gathered speed on (second) Saturday. Will cross ₹300 crore today (Sunday)," trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted yesterday.
Trade website Box Office India said the Anthony and Joe Russo directed film seems to be heading for a ₹50 crore plus second weekend though Hollywood films do not come with a track record of major growth on Sunday. It is also likely to hit the ₹100 crore mark in the Mumbai circuit alone where it has crossed ₹80 crore in nine days. This is a feat previously achieved by blockbusters like Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, Dangal, PK, Tiger Zinda Hai and Sanju. The Delhi and Uttar Pradesh circuit has topped the ₹50 crore mark with net collections standing at ₹51 crore and the next best circuit is Mysore at ₹27 crore where the film is likely to cross the numbers of Aamir Khan’s Dangal soon, which is highest grossing Hindi film in the territory currently.
Overall, in Hindi-speaking markets like Mumbai, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, East Punjab, Rajasthan, central India, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Odisha, Avengers: Endgame is the second highest grossing film at ₹186.71 crore while Baahubali 2: The Conclusion leads with ₹233.85 crore.
The mega success of the Hollywood film has been aided by the lack of any major Hindi releases lately. The two new Bollywood offerings last week, Blank and Setters opened to ₹2.2 crore and ₹50 lakh on their first day. Meanwhile, Karan Johar’s period drama Kalank has almost exhausted its short run at the box office and looking to wrap up at ₹80 crore.
