Teachers in hilly areas seek transfer

Coimbatore: Government schoolteachers, who have been posted in hilly areas in the district such as Valparai and have completed more than three years of service, have approached the school education department, seeking preference in the upcoming transfer counselling.

The teachers, most of them women, on Monday requested the chief education officer to give them preference in transfer counselling, which would be held in June. They said that while they work in schools in the hills, their families were in the plains. This was causing them inconvenience.
There are seven government schools in Valparai and 20 teachers working there had worked for more than three years, they said.
