Surat: One of the three accused involved in the murder of private financier Mahendra Shah was killed in a police encounter in Meerut of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. He had suffered serious injuries in an exchange of fire with the cops in a farmland.
Zuber Jabbar Rangad was wanted for Shah’s murder at Navsari Bazaar area of the city on March 5. He is suspected to have also arranged weapons to carry out the murder of Shah.
Police were carrying out a combing operation in an area under the limits of Daurala police station of Meerut after a loot of a motorcycle, when Zuber, a member of the robber gang, attacked them on Sunday. The robbers left the looted motorcycle behind and escaped into a farmland where there was an exchange of fire between them and the cops. Zuber suffered bullet injuries and died during treatment in a hospital, police said. Three cops had also suffered injuries in the encounter. They are undergoing treatment in a hospital.
Multiple offences of loot and firing have been registered against Zuber, a resident of Lisari Gate, in different police stations of Meerut.
Police had on April 7 arrested Muddasir alias Mudda alias Dabba Gaji, 30, with the help of STF of Uttar Pradesh. Nasir Ali, another attacker involved in Shah’s murder, is yet to be arrested. Muddasir had planned the loot at the shop of Shah. During the loot due to the resistance put up by Shah, Muddasir’s gun fell from his hand and in a panic, the other two assailants had fired at Shah.
