Mystery Porsche 992 Prototype With Fixed Rear Wing Spied

The all-new Porsche 911 is available in only two flavors so far, the Carrera S and Carrera 4S models, which customers can have both in Coupe and Cabriolet body styles.

Mind you, plenty of new versions are in the pipeline, and we’ve already seen spy shots and leaked images of the upcoming 911 GT3 and 911 Turbo range-toppers. Now it’s time to see another new version that we don’t know much about.

Our photographers recently spotted this unidentified 911 prototype which features plenty of differences compared to the existing 992 Carrera S/4S, the most obvious of which is the massive fixed rear wing.

It’s not quite as big and menacing as the one seen on 992 GT3 prototypes, but it gets pretty close. The adoption of this aero element results in some changes at the rear end, as the third braking light changes position and is now attached to the base of the wing while the ventilation grille above the engine has a slightly different design.

The wing is not the only change. A closer look reveals new trapezoidal tailpipe trims that are different from the round exhaust tips of the 992 Carrera S/4S. The bumpers are different as well and feature a sportier design, with the position of the rear license plate being changed as well (it sits upper).

The wheels seem to feature the same design as on the 992 Carrera S/4S but are painted in a gold hue. Finally, another detail is the sunroof which is not made of glass but is body-colored instead. Which might point to it being a lighter version, or it could just be a feature of this particular prototype.

Either way, the fixed rear wing and beefier exhausts suggest this unidentified 911 version should be more powerful and probably more track-oriented than the 450PS (444hp) Carrera S and Carrera 4S, though maybe not as radical as the GT3. We’ll come back with new details on this intriguing 911 version as soon as we have them.
