A dating expert has revealed the five biggest 'turn-offs' that stop Australians getting  a first date after conducting a nation-wide survey.

'Arguably the biggest challenge of dating is actually being able to get a date because you might want to date them but they might not want to date you,' Louanne Ward, from Perth, said in a video uploaded to Facebook.

She has shared the main things that everyone should avoid doing if they want to be lucky in love - from sending nude photos to chatting for weeks on end before meeting their date.

1. Lack of communication

Louanne explained that 68.5 per cent of people said a lack of communication was their biggest turn off before going on a date.

She said that if you're going to make the effort to reach out to someone but not make the effort to communicate with them then there's really no incentive for them to go on a date with you.

She went on to say that your style of communication before a date is really important, whether it be verbal, physical or written.

2.  Dismissive responses

Louanne said that a dismissive response might include responding with just an emoji or only using one or two word answers.

'Whenever you dismiss someone it makes them feel unappreciated and not important to you,' she said.

'Nobody's going to have the inspiration to date someone if they're being dismissive.'

3. Receiving unsolicited nude photos

According to Louanne 50.5 per cent of people said being sent an unsolicited nude from someone is one of the main reasons they would say no to a date.

She explained that if you're considering sending such an image then it is important to see if it is something that the other person would want to receive.

'If you are sending a naked photo to someone you've never met that's not going to increase your chances of getting a date, it's the third biggest turn off in fact,' she said.

4. Weeks of communication before the date happens

Unfortunately for those who may like to speak with a potential date for weeks on end before it happens Louanne said this is a bad idea.

In fact, 46.4 per cent of people hated this before the date.

'It gets to the point where people feel frustrated with all of the communicating without the date happening,' she said.

5. Sexually suggestive comments

Louanne said that 44.3 per cent of people were turned off by inappropriate and suggestive comments prior to the date.

'To go on a date you not only have to find someone you're interested in but you've got to understand that this person doesn't know you so these early communications are going to make them either accept or decline a date,' she said.

'Dating isn't easy...  but it should be fun and it should be light hearted and an enjoyable experience.'
