Man on dialysis faints during election duty, gets exemption

JAIPUR: A 50-year-old man named Pooran Singh, who had undergone dialysis and is undergoing treatment for various other ailments, fainted on duty at a polling station at Shri Bhawani Niketan Public School situated at Sikar Road on Sunday morning.
He has been requesting the authorities to exempt him from duties. But the authorities got a wakeup call after he fainted at the polling station. The district election officer, Jagroop Singh Yadav reached the spot and relieved him from the duties.

Pooran was roaming around at the centre along with his relative to urge the authorities to spare him from the election duties. His relative claimed that he had got paralytic attack some years ago and is also suffering from liver malfunction.
Singh complained of nausea to the relative who was accompanying him. He kept roaming around and suddenly fell down and got injured. Seeing his condition, especially the fact that he went through dialysis, the authorities called up Yadav. Some people brought water bottles while others put a wet towel on his head.
“He complained of various problems and I spotted some bandage on his hand and before I reached people told me that he fainted. Thus, I relieved him from the duties. Prior to this, I have not received any application from him,” said Yadav.
He said that in this season, he received hundreds of applications of government employees seeking exemption from duties on medical grounds.
“I cleared most of the genuine cases, however this particular case never came to my knowledge,” Yadav added.

When asked if the administration was harsh with him, Singh, said, “I am a government servant. I have no complaints. I am happy to get the exemption.”
Due to the scorching heat many employees even policemen complained of dehydration, vomiting and nausea at various other polling booths. “I have got reports of some women who fainted on duty. They were rushed to the hospital and exempted from the duties,” said another officer of district election office in Jaipur.
