A 30-year-old man from Ahmedabad city drowned in the Narmada canal near Karai in Gandhinagar district on Saturday afternoon. Gandhinagar Fire and Emergency Service team fished out his body from the canal on Sunday morning.
The deceased was identified as Kiran Parmar, a resident of Amraiwadi. Regarding the matter, a complaint was lodged with the Adalaj police station on Sunday.
As per police officers, the incident took place on Saturday afternoon, Parmar and two of his friends identified as Kamlesh and Anil had gone to the Karia canal to talk bath. As soon as Parmar got inside the Water, he started drowning and screamed for help.
Meanwhile, Anil also jumped into the water to save Parmar, but he also started downing. Kamlesh somehow managed to save Anil. However, Parmar drowned in the water. The duo searched for Parmar but was not able to find him, after which they went to Parmar's house in the night and informed his parents about the incident.
Regarding the matter, Gandhinagar Fire and Emergency service were informed in the night, but it was dark and they started the search operation on the next day early morning and were able to fish out Parmar's body from the canal.
The family members suspect that Parmar's friends killed him and dumped him inside the canal as they found bruises on Parmar's shoulder. Right now a complaint of accidental death has been lodged with the Adalaj police station and further investigation is on.
