COIMBATORE: As many as 163 youths, mostly IT employees and college students from
Kerala,
Tamil Nadu and
Karnataka, were detained by Coimbatore rural police for using drugs and alcohol at a rave party in a resort at Sethumadai near Pollachi early Saturday morning.
The youths were using cocaine, hash, MDMA or Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (a
psychoactive drug also called 'ecstasy'), and marijuana, police said. The resort manager and five others were arrested. Revenue department officials have sealed the property .
Sources said a team of youths from Goa had been organising rave parties once or twice a month across the country by mobilising youngsters through social media. They had chosen 'Agri Nest', a resort located at a coconut farm, for one such party from Friday 6pm to Saturday 6am. The 163 youths were using several kinds of banned drugs, police said.
