The Mankhurd police have arrested five people over the murder of a 35-year-old last month. The accused include the victim’s wife, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law and two of his brother-in-law’s friends.

As per police, the five killed the man because he objected to his wife running a prostitution racket. Apart from his wife, the four other accused were also involved in the racket, police said. “The victim discovered that his wife was running a prostitution racket to make easy money. He tried stopping her, but she continued to operate it,” an officer from Mankhurd police station said.

Police said the couple would have heated arguments after his wife started renting their home to run the racket. “The victim’s wife, along with her brother, his two friends and sister-in-law, hatched a conspiracy to murder her husband,” said the officer.

On April 25, the victim’s brother-in-law and his two friends confronted him on the issue, during which, his brother-in-law’s friends assaulted him. His brother-in-law then stabbed him to death with a sharp weapon and the trio fled the spot.

A local court on Sunday sent the five accused to judicial custody for two weeks.
