Nagpur: Saturday evening brought memories of acclaimed singer Manna Dey alive at a music programme ‘Tu Pyaar Ka Sagar Hai’, organized by Sargam and South India Association to pay tribute to the maestro to mark his birth centenary, at Ram Nagar hall.
Talented singers rose to the occasion and presented Manna Da’s songs that continue to touch the heart of music lovers.
The programme started with ‘Zindagi kaisi hai paheli’, a song from Hindi movie Anand, which made everyone introspect about life. This was followed by soulful renditions like ‘Kaun aaya mere mann ke dware’, ‘Tum bin jeevan’ and ‘Poochho na kaise maine rain bitai’.
Presentation of ‘Aye meri zohra jabeen’ from ‘Waqt’ had a tantalizing effect so were the songs like ‘Aye bhai zara dekh ke chalo’, ‘Yari hai imaan mera’, ‘Har taraf ab yahi afsane hai’ and ‘Yeh dosti hum nahi’ which engrossed the audience in melody.
Duets songs ‘Jhoomta mausum mast mahina’, ‘Masti bhara hai’, ‘aaja sanam madhur chandni mein’, ‘Yeh raat bheegi bheegi’ and ‘Jaha main jati hoon wahi chale aate ho’ won an encore.
The event reached its crescendo when ‘Babu samjho ishare’, ‘Kasme vaade pyaar wafa’, ‘Dil ka haal sune dilwala’, ‘Laga chunari mein daag’ and title song ‘Tu pyaar ka sagar hai’ were well-received.
The singers were Shrikant Paithankar, Gopal Iyer, Jairam Subramanian, Vijay Dhawle, Vijay Ramteke, Vijay Gupta, Manish Nair, Vinod Gaikwad, Arvind Uprit, Rashmi Kolhe, Uma Raghuraman and Raju Tandale.
The accompanying artistes were Mangesh Patle (keyboard), Ganesh Thamke (tabla), Nitin Vinchurkar (octopad) and Ashok Reddy (sound).
Anchor Pushpa Anand listed the milestone Manna Dey achieved in his lifetime. The audience appreciated the performances by giving the singers a standing ovation.
Earlier, the traditional lamp was lit by chief of Sargam organization MV Unnikrishnan, president of South India Association KV Nagrajan, secretary Ravi Iyer, vice-president Gomati Radhakrishnan and treasurer Geeta Sharma.
