AAP says Delhi Police lowers its guard while protecting Arvind Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal
NEW DELHI: Indirectly blaming the BJP for the assault on Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal during a roadshow in Moti Nagar on Saturday, AAP alleged that Delhi Police “lowers its guard while protecting the CM”.
Expressing outrage at Suresh Chauhan breaching security to slap Kejriwal, deputy CM Manish Sisodia tweeted, “Do Narendra Modi and Amit Shah now want to get Arvind Kejriwal assassinated? Cowards, you couldn't break his morale despite making all efforts for five years, couldn't defeat him in elections, now you want to remove him like this.”

AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh also alleged that the attacks on the CM were part of a conspiracy against him. “This makes it clear that laxity is knowingly allowed in the CM’s security, which is under PM Narendra Modi. Have you heard of such repeated attacks on any other CM?” he said. He demanded a probe into what he called the conspiracy against Kejriwal, and said Delhi Police was incapable of protecting the CM. “He has the poorest security cover among CMs,” Singh said.
Some prominent leaders of the country too condemned the assault. “This is an indication of their desperation,” said Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu. “I strongly denounce the dastardly act and Delhi Police must take responsibility for this heinous act of a democratically elected CM being slapped in public.”

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said on Twitter: “Political vandalism. Political goondaism. Political vendetta. Maligning and attacking opposition leaders show that BJP have lost the election and are making desperate attempts. We condemn the attack on @ArvindKejriwal. We are all with you, Arvind.”
AAP claimed that Kejriwal has been attacked numerous times in a clearly visible pattern. “Whenever there is an attack, BJP tries to justify the attack on national TV and make a hero of the attacker,” said AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj. “Many of the attackers in the past have had proven links with BJP. The wife of today’s attacker also confirmed that he is a Modi bhakt.”

He alleged that Delhi Police lowered its guard to make the CM vulnerable to attacks. “But there is no talk of suspension of the commissioner of police. This itself is glaring evidence that the Modi government is patronising these attacks,” claimed Bharadwaj.
An attacker coming so close to the CM could have held a pistol or knife, he added, and alleged, “Undoubtedly, the Modi government is out to get the chief minister killed.”
